Today was the final eclipse of the season, and what a season it’s been. In the early hours of this morning (Sunday) there was a partial eclipse of the Moon in Capricorn. The third and final eclipse of the summer of 2020, signalling a winding down of this concentration of rapid and intense change we have been experiencing.
To make room for new things in our lives we have to decide on what to let go.
Capricorn, and Leaving the Past Behind
It’s all well and good me coming here for the past couple of weeks and encouraging change and transformation, but it’s much easier said than done. More often than not transformation is not all butterflies elegantly emerging from chrysalises or flowers blossoming in the morning sun. It’s often hard and painful work that takes time and sustained effort.
If you have felt the eclipses strongly these past few weeks; if you have experienced accelerated personal transformation and development during this eclipse cycle, then it’s likely you have experienced more raw emotion than bursts of energy. More opening of old wounds than ecstatic epiphanies. Although hopefully it’s been a bit of both.
This morning’s Capricorn Full Moon urges us to take responsibility for both our pain and our joy, and to consciously let go of past grievances that continue to drag us down.
Retrogrades, and Figuring Ourselves Out
Hopefully, the last few weeks have helped us all realise what is truly important to us. Venus is moving forwards again and picking up speed after her retrograde phase. Her stationing direct last week was an important moment between the previous eclipse and this one. It should have come with a message, a clear voice ringing out above the noise.
So what did you learn? What was the message you received? And what do you need to let go of in order to follow through on that?
Although Venus may now be moving forward, Mercury – in emotionally aware Cancer – is still retrograde. Mercury Rx shifts the focus of reflection to how our habits are serving us.
Saturn has been in retrograde for a while but has now moved backwards into Capricorn after a few months in Aquarius. The time Saturn spent in Aquarius – late March until just the other day – was testing the ground for what the future might hold. This almost precisely coincides with the strictest era of the lockdown in most cases. It’s worth thinking about what we learned throughout this entire period. What we would do differently and what we would keep the same if we could do it all again. Because, although there won’t be an exact repeat, what happened during this time points toward what Saturn’s full tenure in Aquarius has in store, starting again 17th December.
Now that Saturn is back in Capricorn for the next several months, there is a feeling of finishing up old business. When a planet comes to the end of a sign there is often a sense of urgency to learn all the lessons we were supposed to during its stay. You might be able to pick up on the mood having shifted and attention being drawn to pre-lockdown problems that we had forgotten about until just this week. We have the next few months to work through them.
Our Moment in History
Let’s use our moment in history as a kind of divinatory device. The Coronavirus brought with it widespread fear of death and destruction when it first started getting serious in March. This gave a sense of impending doom, many of our lives changed irrevocably.
Although we are still living with the fear rippling through our communities, in general, things have been eased, our lives regaining a little bit of normalcy.
But now as things are starting to feel a bit easier and many people are taking the virus less seriously we are starting to see cases rise and in some instances spike again. The reality of the situation is kicking in.
This Capricorn Full Moon eclipse is emblematic of reality kicking in again. It’s been such a wild ride these last few weeks, it’s gone by in such a blur, that it was easy to let our feet get lifted off the ground a little and be swept away with all that’s going on. This Moon comes to remind us that there is still much work to be done and a long way to go before we’re through.
With everything that has been going on recently it’s almost as if we forgot about one of the most important elections, in my lifetime at least, being just 5 months away. It’s still not clear which incoherent old pervert is gonna win the US presidency and what other events are going to unfold around that.
And although the mainstream media may have taken it’s eyes off of the Black Lives Matter movement, there are still dedicated people out there working for change. Change that wouldn’t come unless they keep fighting.
Your Moment in History
And just like the historical story of 2020 is not over yet, neither is your personal story for 2020. Things will begin to slow down a little as we leave the whirlwind of eclipses of the past few weeks behind, but that’s not the end.
Catch your breath, get your feet firmly on the ground and do some reorganising in light of all that has happened the past month or so. Leave behind that which no longer serves you and pay attention to anything that hurts, literally and metaphorically. We are gonna need our strength to make the most of the awesome astrology and crazy historical events that are gonna play out for the rest of the year.
Buckle up.
