2020 Election Astrology: No normal to go back to

It doesn’t take an astrologer to tell you that the upcoming US election is gonna be an absolute shitshow. Even so, the astrology does suggest that we are in for a wild ride in the lead up to, and aftermath of, the big day on November 3rd.

The Set-Up

We are about a week away from the election and the guys over at FiveThirtyEight reckon that Biden has an 88% chance of winning and Trump has 12%. If we compare that to the 2016 election; a week before the big day Hillary had 72%, Trump 28%. People were – in some cases still are – shocked that Trump actually clinched it. In other words, the chances are that Biden will win, but there’s still a real chance that Trump could take it.

The factor that the pollsters at FiveThirtyEight don’t and can’t take into account is that Trump and his cronies will do everything in their power to lie, cheat and steal their way to victory. We’ve already seen this pretty blatantly over the past few weeks. For example, the Trump-appointed Postmaster General purposefully slowing down the mail system to try and prevent mail-in votes reaching their destination on time. There is a slew of other underhanded tactics at play here. However, the most obvious is the desperate attempts Trump has been making to preemptively delegitimize the results.

The Mercury Retrograde Factor

Mercury retrograde loves room for misinterpretation and this is exactly what Trump has been working towards. Mercury is currently retrograde and stands still ready to change direction on the very day of the election. This is called the Mercury Storm and is a potent moment in the retrograde cycle.

This is a sign that the results will be disputed. As I opened the article with, you don’t need an astrologer to tell you that. But it is always wonderful to see the astrology match the reality so clearly.

The last time Mercury stationed direct on the day of the election was Bush vs. Gore, 2000. It took 36 days before the election was called in Bush’s favour. On the day the two were basically tied and it all came down to Florida to decide. The declared winner kept flipping between Bush and Gore until a recount was called. The process was long, complicated and pretty fishy in many respects but in the end, the Supreme Court declared that another recount would be unconstitutional and so Bush would be President.

The fact that Mercury stations direct on the day of the election 20 years later suggests that we are going to see something similar happening this time around. This is why the Republicans were so quick to swear in Amy Coney Barrett before election day because if it ends up going all the way to the Supreme Court again, it gives them an advantage.

The Uranus Halloween Full Moon Factor

Just days before the election there is a Full Moon. This Moon lands on the 31st of October; Halloween, and is in extremely close aspect with Uranus. Uranus is the planet of upsets and surprises and it being activated by this powerful Full Moon suggests that we are in for some excitement and craziness going into election day.

It will be an electric weekend whatever you decide to do, but it’s safe to say that some last-minute October surprises are going to fill the news cycle. I’m not even going to try and predict what this might be. Full Moons are indicative of peak energy, the ending of a deadlock, the closing of chapters and Uranus’ motto is: expect the unexpected. We’ll have to wait and see.

The Capricorn Cluster Factor

At present Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all within a few degrees of one another in the late degrees of Capricorn. I’ve been talking about the various interactions between these planets for over a year now. It’s safe to say that we can attribute the pandemic – and all that has come with – to this once in a lifetime astrology.

Capricorn also represents the big power structures of society. The sign’s symbolism, when looking at world events, is inherently political. Politics has become unavoidable over the last couple of years, whether it’s been the never-ending Brexit headache or the constant dumbstruck-awe of watching the orange clown dance around the stage.

But in the background, the powers that we don’t see dancing around, the world of big business and dark money have slowly been accruing ever more power and influence. The sense that we are living in an oppressive cyberpunk dystopia has been building as these big planets interact in Capricorn. This is the backdrop to the election.

The Eris Factor

I introduced the Eris factor in my previous post.

Ninety degrees away across the zodiac Eris sits in Aries, rubbing up against Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Eris represents the breakdown of consensus reality. She has been around at many of the most important turning points in human history. When a total paradigmatic shift occurs Eris is often present. Think of the transition from feudalism to industrialism. Think of how things like electricity, radio and television have affected our culture and how smartphones are shifting what it means to be a human being.

Squared up against the Capricorn cluster, Eris represents the tipping point we are living through right now. Capitalism in its current form is pushing up against its limits, it’s becoming more and more obvious that the economic system we are living under does not work. But seeing as this system has infiltrated all aspects of our society, we are also being offered no alternatives. In fact, we are being told that there are no alternatives.

The election on 3rd of November is not between Good Guy Biden and Orange Man Bad. Politicians like Biden are avid representatives of the system that no longer works. Trump is just a symptom of that decaying system thrashing around.

If Eris is telling us one thing it’s that there is no “going back to normal” whether that be living in a world without Trump or without the fear-mongering surrounding Covid-19. We are past the point of no return.

There is no normal to go back to.

Re Mercury Retrograde

The place that Mercury stations direct and stands still in the zodiac during the election is opposite to Eris and 90 degrees away from the Capricorn cluster.

That brings all of this Capricorn and Eris energy to fore, it intertwines the highly probable controversy around the election results with the deeper political and economic environment we are living in.

One thing that tends to happen during Mercury stations is that information is revealed. Something that was previously hidden becomes known.

If we mix all of these elements together. The Mercury Storm, the wild card Full Moon on Saturday and the deep background transitional energy of the Capricorn cluster and Eris we are likely to learn something of great importance in the coming weeks. And we are also likely to witness one hell of a season finale in American politics.

Strap in and stay safe.
